About

Who we are

Blunatic Audiovisual Communications was founded in 2005. Run by Dr Christina Georgiou, an award-winning composer and writer, Berlinale Talents Alumna and a Member of the European Film Academy, Blunatic collaborates with a highly motivated artistic team, providing a variety of audio and multimedia services. Due to its multifaceted range of activities, it has recently branched out to Blunatic Records and Blunatic Pictures.

Blunatic has contributed to the production of a multitude of award-winning feature and short films, commercials, dance and theatre performances, literary publications and other interdisciplinary projects, some of which are featured in the Portfolio section. Awards received so far include the Best Soundtrack Award at the Monaco International Film Festival 2008 for the short film "Styx", the Primo Premio at the Videominuto International Film Festival 2012 and the First Prize at the Kiev Short Film Festival 2012 for the short film "Genesis 2:26", the Big Audiovisual Award of the Micrografi Competition 2012 (Athens) for the short screenplay "Eternity and a Night", the Second Prize for Best Film of the ISFFC 2014 (National Section) for "Afterthoughts", a Special Mention at the Drama Film Festival 2014 and an Award for Art Direction at the Athens Digital Film Festival 2014 for the film "For Eternity", a nomination for Best Music at the National Theatre Awards 2014 for the music of the stage play "Love Lies", the First Prize for Best Film at the ISFFC 2015 (National Section) for "Out of Sight" and the First Prize for Best Smartphone Film at the Great Message Film Festival 2018 in India. Our latest project in collaboration with Blunatic Pictures, "The Stray Story: A dogumentary" (2021), has so far received 13 international awards and continues its festival rounds.

Sound Design

Sound Design as a creative art can elevate the image or the scenic action tremendously. Blunatic staff is always up-to-date with sound design skills, tools, and trends. In 2012 alone, our training included attendance at the European Academy's "The sound of the image" workshop in Berlin and the "Music and Sound in film" workshop in Lithuania.

Our in-house recording studio facilities, recently upgraded by Ioannides Acoustics, guarantee quality audio tracks for any purpose: from vocals and instruments to on-screen dubbing, voiceover, and field recording services. Additionally, Blunatic collaborates with the Budapest Concert Orchestra so that your music is performed meticulously and affordably.

* We've been busy composing music for several feature films, produced in Cyprus, Malta and Italy respectively: The Ghosts of Monday (2022), The Vipers' Pit (2021) and Sicilian Holiday (2023). * Feature documentary "The Stray Story: A dogumentary" (2021) receives 13 international awards and has been approved for school screenings! The documentary explores the inspirational work of stray rescue volunteers around the globe. Screenings are combined with school presentations, to raise awareness on the issue. "Out of Sight" receives First Prize at ISFFC 2015!

"Out of Sight" (Blunatic Pictures/Crewhouse Media, 2015), has won the First Prize for Best National Film at the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus 2015, and a special mention for its lead actor, Antonis Katsaris. Written, directed and produced by David Hands and Christina Georgiou, the film narrates in one shot a man's visit to a deserted. Watch the film here.

"Afterthoughts" receives Award and is picked up by Eurochannel!

This Blunatic Pictures production received the 2nd Prize for Best Film at the National Section of the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus 2014, and has traveled around the globe. It has now been offered a distribution deal by Eurochannel and will represent Cyprus for two years in the 7th Edition of their Short Film Tour, focusing on "Family Life in Europe". "Rupert's Ship": A USA/Cyprus co-production by Blunatic Pictures

This short film, directed and produced by Daniel Pace, features a screenplay, sound and music by Christina Georgiou. It was shot in the US, while the post-production took place in both the US and Cyprus. It has participated in several festivals worldwide, including the Goldenboll Mediterranean Short Film Festival 2014 and the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus 2014. Sound Design and Music for the feature film "Conveyor Belt"

Alexia Roider's debut feature film, "Conveyor Belt" (2015), had its local premiere during the Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival 2015. Sound Design and Music for the feature film "Beloved Days"

This documentary feature (2015), directed by Constantinos Patsalides and produced by Walking Around the World, premiered at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival in 2015, continuing with sold out screenings in Cyprus and London and a European Distribution deal. Blunatic Audiovisual Communications has contributed to the project with Sound Design and Music Composition Services by Christina Georgiou.

Music for the feature film "Smac"

Having collaborated for "Fish 'n Chips" (2011), Elias Demetriou continues his collaboration with Christina Georgiou for the feature film "SMAC" (2016), which has so far received two Audience Awards (Cyprus Film Days 2016, Outview Festival 2016) and two Awards for Best Actress (Greek Film Academy and LA Greek Film Festival). Music for the Hungarian short film "Donkey Xote"

Written and directed by Otto Banovits, "Donkey Xote" (2016) tells the humorous story of the life changing meeting between a skydiver and an old farmer.

The short, that features additional music by Christina Georgiou, has won First Prize at Montreal World Film Festival 2016, and has been included in the Academy Awards selections!

Music for the feature film "Chinatown - The Three Shelters"

Director of "Roads and Oranges" and "BAR", Aliki Danezi-Knutsen, returns to the big screen with "Chinatown - The Three Shelters" (2018), shot in Cyprus and Greece, and starring Katerina Misichroni as Cleo, the child of destiny.

The film is now entering its festival round, and features an original score by Christina Georgiou and George Solonos.

"For Eternity" wins more prizes!"

Following the first prize received for the screenplay by Christina Georgiou at the Micrografi Competition among 230 entries, the film, produced in 2014 by Blunatic Pictures has so far received two awards: a SPECIAL MENTION at the Drama Film Festival 2014 and an AWARD FOR BEST ART DIRECTION at the Athens Digital Film Festival 2014.

ABOUT THE MANAGING DIRECTOR

Academic Qualifications

Dr Christina Georgiou studied music at King's College London, with complementary piano performance classes at the Royal Academy of Music, acquiring a BMus Hons. She continued with a scholarship at City University London, completing a Master of Arts and a PhD in Music.In 2019 she was voted Musician of the year at the Cyprus MFAwards.

Brief Introduction

Christina is an award-winning film composer, screenwriter and poet, having received, among others, a Best Soundtrack Award, a Best Screenplay Award and several Best Film Awards for films she has written and/or produced. Latest awards include Best Female Director, Best Debut Film and Best Documentary for her passion project, "The Stray Story: A dogumentary" (2021). Christina is a Berlinale Talents Alumna, a Member of the European Film Academy and a part-time Lecturer at the University of Nicosia.

Best Soundtrack Award

Christina was awarded for Best Soundtrack at the Monaco Film Festival 2008 for the film Styx. The complete soundtrack is available here. She was also nominated for National Theatre's Best Music Award for the stage play "Love Lies" in 2014.

Big Audiovisual Award

The screenplay "Eternity and a Night" by Christina Georgiou received the Big Audiovisual award at the Micrografi 2012 screenplay competition in Athens. The film, "For Eternity", directed by Maria Lafi, has so far received two awards.

Two First Prizes for "Genesis 2:26"

The short film Genesis 2:26, directed by Daniel Pace and written and produced by Daniel Pace and Christina Georgiou received the First prize at the Videominuto Film Festival 2012 and in Kiev Film Festival 2012.

Poetry Award and Publications

Christina received the Pancyprian Poetry Award in 1998. Three personal poetry collections followed, "As the world sinks" (1998), "Ethali" (2007) and "The 8th Day" * (2013). Christina's poems and short stories have been included in a number of Greek, Cypriot and International anthologies and have been translated in English, Italian and Turkish.

President of C.O.P.M.T. (2006-2010)

Christina has served as the President of the Cyprus Organization of Private Music Teachers for four years. During her presidency, a legislation proposal for private music education was promoted at the Cyprus Parliament and the Ministry of Education and Culture, and a number of educational music workshops were organized with great success.

Daniel Pace and Christina Georgiou are the founders of the film production company Blunatic Pictures [USA]. The company has so far produced five short films, "Genesis 2:26" (2012), "Rupert's Ship" (2013), "Afterthoughts" (2014), "For Eternity" (2014) and "Out of Sight" (2015).

Member of Editorial Board @ Anef

Christina is a member of the Editorial Board of the artistic journal Anef. The journal has been published since 2001, presenting studies, commentary and works in the fields of literature, music, theatre, cinema, and the fine arts. Christina has been collaborating as the author of articles, interviews, reviews, poems and short stories since 2002.

University Lecturer

Christina is adjunct faculty at the University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia, teaching Screenwriting, Sound Production for Film and Radio Documentary Production.

Collaborating Musicologist

Christina has served as a collaborating musicologist of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, providing musicological program notes for their concerts since 2008.

Member of Donne in Musica

Christina is a member of the organization Donne in Musica, which promotes and assists the work of female musicians and composer worldwide. Her chamber work "Cammini di Cipro" (2012) was commissioned by the organization.

Artistic Director 2016

Christina served as Artistic Director of the Children's Section of Cyprus Film Days 2016. During the festival, children were given the opportunity to watch awarded films, learn more about film-making and create their own short films.

Christina's training includes workshops such as The Sound of the Image, Music and Sound in Film, Script2Film Workshop, TransmediaNext workshop and the Berlinale Talent Campus.
